Sparks, NV — Today, progressive Democrat, tech policy strategist, and civil rights activist Wendy Stolyarov announced her candidacy for the Sparks City Council Ward 1 seat. “Sparks is growing up. While we want to retain that hometown feeling, Ward 1 is a thriving, diverse place,” said Wendy Stolyarov. “My focuses on Sparks City Council will be housing affordability, civil rights, and ensuring that Sparks is a safe, welcoming place for all its residents.”
Sparks Ward 1 borders Reno and covers the area south of Greenbrae Drive and east of North McCarran Blvd. In the 2017 legislative session, State Senator (and former Ward 1 Council Member) Julia Ratti sponsored Senate Bill 202, moving Sparks from a city-wide general election system to a ward-only general election system. The bill was approved on May 24, 2017.
Wendy Stolyarov is a progressive Democrat who is passionate about people and good policy. She currently works at Filament, a Reno-based technology company that builds blockchain hardware and software solutions for the enterprise and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), allowing companies to securely connect devices and machines that interact and transact value independent of a central authority. Wendy joined the company in 2017 and has advocated for responsible state-level blockchain policy in Colorado and Nevada. Prior to joining Filament, she worked for NARAL as a field director and as the Legislative Director in the Nevada Legislature for the Libertarian Party of Nevada. She’s lived in Northern Nevada for a decade, and aims to trail-run and hike as much of the beautiful Silver State as possible.
